My Picks From OPI Skyfall

Hey. I got so lost in swatching that I kinda didn't post here in almost two months.  Eeep!  I'm back...and I brought swatches!  I was so impressed by OPI's Skyfall collection that I bought SEVEN of them!  I *love* this collection!

Polka dots + Chess nails + Julep Harper swatch

A lot has been going on for me! First of all, I painted a chess set on my nails! Second, I went back to basics with some shiny polka dots. And third, I realized that Julep's Harper mattified looks like toothpaste. Here are some teaser pics. Click on them to see the full posts!

Advent Calendar Challenge Roundup: Part 1!

Hi guys! Sorry for the ridiculously long post title! I wanted to share with you my manis from my first 8 days of the Advent Calendar Challenge I created. It's a total of 24 days (just like a real Advent Calendar) with a new inspiration/challenge for each day for your mani. I've only missed *one* day because I didn't own a silver polish and I ran out of time, but here's the other 7 manis I did for the first 8 days! For reference, here's my original post on the NB blog about my Advent Calendar Challenge, and also the challenge itself:

Read on after the jump to see my manis!

And a single pic for teasers. :)

That's all for now, folks!

NailBoarders Turns 3...months

NailBoarders Blog is 3-months-old...and 3 days
I just wanted to wish everyone happy holidays no matter what you celebrate. Hope to see some theme manis soon! I can't believe it's been 3 months already! I'm still looking for helpful tutorials to add to the Tutorials page. If you know of one, does not have to be a nail board member, please leave a comment on the Turorial page. Also, I was thinking we need some nice art for the homepage. Maybe someone can help us with that since I am new to this sort of thing. Thanks to all the contributors and followers, you guys rock ;)

Advent Calendar Nail Challenge!

Hi everyone! Today I wanted to share a Nail Challenge I created. It's based and inspired by the nail art 31 day challenge that floats around the nail polish world... but it's Christmas themed, and only 24 days long so you have time to relax and enjoy your presents after Christmas Eve!

The "rules" are simple: be inspired by the suggestions for each day! I tried to be a little vague so that you could find inspiration for what each day means to you. I'll be circulating this calendar on Instagram (my username is happyhandsnailpolish) as well as my blog and my Happy Hands Nail Polish Facebook page. I hope you'll take part and repost this image (though please do not remove anything or edit it besides adding Instagram filters) and if you post your challenges on Instagram or Twitter, please tag them with #adventcalendarchallenge and #happyhandsnailpolish so everyone can find them. And most importantly, have fun!

OPI DS Exclusive!

When I'm Not In The Mood For Color

Hi Everyone,

I love color and of course I love nail polish, but some days I'm just not in the mood for any color.   I always pull out my favorite nude.

OPI Tickle My France-y is from the 2008 OPI La Collection De France Collection it's my go to mannequin hands color.  I think it's flattering against my skintone looks clean and fresh.  OPI Tickle My France-y is a jelly/creme beige/taupe that needs 3 coats to cover my nail line.

What is your favorite when you are not in the mood for color?

Have a great nail polish day!

Oopsie Daisies Apple Picking

Hi everyone! I wanted to share a wonderful fall-themed indie with you today: Oopsie Daisies Apple Picking. I saw this and had to have it immediately. I also acquired a fabulous yellow creme, Revlon Colorstay Buttercup, to use as undies (MY FIRST YELLOW CREME...that is crazy in a stash of ~800).

For a complete review, see my blog entry. Thanks for looking guys!

What I bought from the OPI Skyfall holiday 2012 collection

Goldeneye: irregular gold microglitter/shimmer in a clear, deep golden-yellow base.  This is three coats.  Not super-flattering but I DON'T CARE.  It's gorgeous!  Picture taken under overcast skies.

My first Post...Purple Gradient With Shimmer

Hi I'm rmcandlelight from Makeupalley/nailcare board.   I want to thank Pinkqueen for letting me join this awesome group.  Yay! Nailboards Unite.

I love purple and here is a simple gradient purple with shimmer.

                                Items Used:
Sinful Colors is an awesome brand they have lots of beautiful colors to choose from.  I purchased Perfection "10" from Walmart.  I love the iridescent shimmer.

Happy Halloween! A Minecraft Manicure

Wow, MUA is temporarily gone!  I admit, I responded to this crisis by buying nail polish - and then I started work on my Halloween nails!

For my Halloween manicure, I decided to recreate five famous monsters from the videogame Minecraft on my fingernails. If you're not familiar with the game, I've included pictures of the actual monsters for your enjoyment.  Here's my manicure!

And here's the monsters my nails represent.

I created this manicure by painting pieces of scotch tape, letting it dry, and then cutting out the different face shapes using small craft scissors.  I then placed these DIY nail stickers over the appropriate base colors.

Thanks for looking, everyone, and feel free to check out more pictures of this manicure on my blog.  Have a happy, spooky Halloween, everyone, and to those in the northeast United States, hang in there.  My monster-clad fingers are crossed for a return of the makeupalley servers.

Sandy and MUA

First, hope everyone's safe! Sandy is world news by now. Not sure if the extent of blackouts is making news yet. NYC is under an intentional blackout, in the hope of preventing damage and making it easier to bring the grid back up when the storm's over. Large parts of the Mid-Atlantic and New England have also lost power. More outages will probably happen before it passes. My guess is that MUA's servers are down because of the outages or blackout.

I'm fine, doing leak patrol at work. I can't comment on blog posts from my phone, so if you'd like to contact me, prettygirlscienceblog@gmail is probably the best way right now, or my personal accounts if you know them. They all come to my phone. I'll also be tweeting, unless Twitter follows MUA...

Good luck to anyone else dealing with the storm or earthquakes!

MUA meets Sandy?

MUA I miss you already!! It would appear Hurricane Sandy has caused MUA to shut down their servers. Was this announced? Stay safe East Coasters!

Breast Cancer Awareness Mammicure

Reposting this from Pretty Girl Science:

I don't like pink.  I was thinking of skipping the whole Breast Cancer Awareness thing because I cringe at the thought of painting my nails pink (again)...and then I was struck by a terrible pun.  Mammicure!  It's like a manicure...with BOOBS!  I love boobs!!  Best part?  Almost no pink!  I grabbed every nude polish I had and went nuts with my dotting tool...

Monster High Series

Hey guys, I haven't posted on here in a while.  I am going to do a series inspired by Monster High dolls.  It will probably be over a span of time, I have done two so far.  If you don't know what Monster High dolls are you should go google them they are so cute.

My newest one is inspired by Abbey Bominable the Daughter of the Yeti

Recap Post

I realized I haven't posted anything since my first post but I've been pretty busy with my own blog so I thought I'd post a sort of recap post of my recent favorites.

This was one of my early fall manicures with China Glaze Ingrid, I'm Not Lion and Riveting. The full post can be seen here.

This was my first glitter gradient sandwich, done with Love and Beauty Jade and Sinful Colors Nail Junkie. Jade was not originally a jelly so I created it myself and it worked out great! The full post for that is here.

This manicure is probably my favorite of this month. This was inspired by a skirt I saw on Pinterest and I just love the color combos. More pictures and the inspiration skirt can be seen in the full post here.

An urge to watermarble led to me to this mani. This was my first time experimenting with two accent nails in the middle and I loved it! I loved the similar colors of the marble. The main color is Sinful Colors Folly. You can read the full post here!

This was the first mani in which I saw the full beauty of Kleancolor Chunky Holo line of colors. I have it layered over a beauty supply store brand purple with a bottle shaped oddly like a Kleancolor bottle. More of the beautiful colors shifts can be seen in the full post here.

A very spring like mani for the fall, this was also my only gradient for the month. I loved the big green glitters in this Love and Beauty polish. I think a good dupe for it is NYX Girls Enchanted Forest. The full post for this can be found here.

Well, I feel like this post is long enough already. I might have to do another post for the rest of the month in a different post. Hope you guys enjoyed this mini spam! To see more manis and to see some plain swatches of some of these colors, come visit my blog!

Cloud Atlas!

Hi everyone - did anybody go see Cloud Atlas in theaters yesterday?

I'm obsessed with the book, so naturally I went, and painted my nails in honor of the occasion!

Feel free to go see more pictures of my Cloud Atlas manicure over at my blog!  Thanks for looking, and I hope everyone is having a wonderful October.

Illamasqua Boosh, Worthy of the Hype?

So, what's the big deal? It's a common question to have about a black creme nail polish that  costs $14. I have to admit I was very skeptical, but could so many nail board members be wrong? I didn't think so. Let's take a closer look at Boosh.

First NOTD - Essie Mojito Madness w/ Glitter

Hey girls! I'm Wendy (from Freshe Coat) or brainless_wendy over on MUA. I wanted to thank Amanda really quick for the invite and also apologize for taking forever to post anything...real life got in way for a sec.

Anyway...I hope I'm doing this right! The NOTD I wanted to share with you all is Essie - Mojito Madness. Love this green! (excuse the dryness...that darn scrubby tub kills my skin!)

Halloween Spider Mani

I used Del Sol 'Trick-or-Treat' as the base.  It's a sheer-ish orange with holo glitter that turns black in direct sunlight (it does need a LOT of sunlight, though; you won't achieve any significant color change in partial sun).  I used white striping polish for the web and black striping polish for the spiders' legs.  The spider's bodies are black rhinestones and black 'pearl' cabochons.  For more information, view my full post here.

Indoors, with flash.  This is three coats of Del Sol 'Trick-or-Treat'.

Outdoors, in sunlight.

Thanks for Reading!

Still More Fall Reviews!

I just can't help myself!  There's so much gorgeous new polish out this Fall....and I'm still not *quite* done!

Last week I was all about two new collections, Sinful Colors Enchanted/Muse and Sally Hansen's new LE Diamond Strength collection.

Fall has arrived! My October Birthday Mani in Orange & Black

First, I would like to mention that orange is not a color I ever reach for. But, during the months of October and November it is a must that I celebrate the holidays with a themed mani. This is probably the only time of year these polishes will get used :( While they are very nice, I just am not an orange person, or green for that matter. And yellow is not even on my radar. But, I'm an October baby, and Autumn is my favorite season,...orange is in order!

Here is my birthday mani!

Fashion Inspired Nails

Hey guys still doing the 31 Day Challenge, I took a break from it for a few day because I was getting a little fried trying to come up with ideas.  But I am back on it now and here is a sneak peek at my day 25 mani!

Oh, those elusive Japanese glitters...

Prior to moving to Japan I'd heard/read people raving about "those awesome Japanese glitters!"  Ever since I arrived here about 15 months ago, I've been looking for them.  Even when I went to Tokyo for the Anime Fair I searched Roppongi, Shibuya, and Harajuku for them.  I couldn't find any glitter that I hadn't seen before or seen done better in the States!  Sure, Pa had some nice ones but for 300+ yen (roughly $4) for a tiny bottle it wasn't worth it!

Then I found these:

Going Grey...Color Club Status Update and Nail Pattern Boldness Haul

I love to mix grey's in nail art with super brights or neon's. I don't get much of a chance to do nail art these days because of my hectic schedule with 2 under 2 and a preteen. But glitter from the Indie world has really opened me up to a new concept in nail art. Here is my most recent glitter acquisition aka. haul and NOTD over Color Club Status Update.

I Can't Let Summer Go Yet..!!!

Hola ladies, my name is Vonnye1490 on NB (I so wish I could change my name smh)

Anywho, I'm not one to follow that "you-cannot-wear-bright-colors-in-fall" rule...

Fall Colors!

Sonia Kashuk has put out a nice little fall collection this year.  I think it's a great "vampy polish" starter kit, though it probably doesn't have much appeal to those who already have a lot of polish (like everybody here, amirite??)

Dior Shadow

I love this one you guys! I did three coats of Shadow, one of Seche Vite, and I think it just glows! Super vampy and perfect for fall, and a shimmer that is definitely not too hidden. For more pictures and a review, head over to my blog :)
